Overview

The Photo Essay page is a great way to capture both visual and written responses. A typical use case would be asking a new hire to upload a photo of themselves or their workspace, accompanied by a description. The flexibility of this page allows the user to either take a new photo or upload an existing image.

This type of page always includes a text field next to the image, allowing for additional explanations or descriptions. However, the text field is optional, and it's not mandatory to add text.

Steps to Add a Photo Essay Page

→ Access the Course

  1. Log in as an Administrator or Editor.

  2. Click on Courses in the left-hand menu.

→ Choose the Course

  1. Navigate to the course where you would like to add the new page.

  2. Click on Editor at the bottom left corner of the desired course.

→ Select the Story

Once in the Editor, select the Story where you want to add the page.

→ Choose the Chapter

In the menu on the left, select the Chapter where the new page will go.

→ Add a Photo Essay Page

  1. In the left menu, choose Photo Essay.

  2. Click on the button that says Add Page in the bottom right corner.

→ Choose the Language

Select the desired language for the page.

→ Name the Page

  1. Give your new Photo Essay page a name.

  2. Click here for a guide on choosing a good name for your page.

→ Write the Assignment

  1. In the text field under the Title, write clear instructions for the user.

Example: “Take a picture with your new colleague and upload it here”.

  2. Be clear on what the user is expected to do with the photo and text.

→ Write the Explanation

  1. The text you type in the Explanation field will appear after the user has uploaded their photo and submitted their response.

Example: “Thank you for sharing your photo! We hope you are settling in well.”

  2. This is an opportunity to thank the user or provide additional feedback.

→ Provide Extra Information

  1. In the Info Button field, write additional details that will be visible when the user clicks on the info icon next to the page.

Example: “Please ensure the photo is clear and appropriate for your profile.”

→ Configure Answer Settings

In the Page Options section, you can configure settings for the answers.

You can make the photo upload mandatory by selecting the checkbox at ‘Mandatory Correct Answer’, ensuring that users cannot proceed to the next page without uploading a picture.

→ Advanced Settings

In the Advanced Page Options, you have the ability to convert the page into another page type (e.g., a multiple-choice or text entry page).

The fields such as Title, Description, Explanation, Feedback, and Info Button will remain intact after the conversion.
