Overview

Adding a video page to your course enhances the learning experience by presenting content in an engaging format. Incorporating videos into the onboarding process makes it more interactive and informative, capturing new hires' attention and facilitating better understanding.

πŸ“Œ Important Note:

To ensure compatibility and optimal playback, Appical recommends the following:

  • Supported Formats: MP4, MOV, and AVI are the recommended video formats. These formats offer efficient compression, balancing quality and file size for smooth playback on most devices.

  • File Size: Keep video files under 90MB. Larger files may cause slow loading times and buffering, which can detract from the user experience.

  • Resolution: Aim for HD (720p) or Full HD (1080p) to provide clear video quality without excessively large files. Lower resolutions may reduce quality, while higher resolutions can unnecessarily increase file size.

Steps to add a video page

To set up a Video page, follow these steps:

β†’ Open Courses

Go to β€˜Courses’ from the left menu.

Find the course to which you want to add the video and click β€˜Editor’ at the bottom left of that course.

β†’ Choose the Story, Chapter and add Page

Navigate to the story you wish to add a video.

In the left menu, select the relevant chapter.

Click β€˜Add page,’ on the bottom left of the right menu then choose the β€˜Video’ option (Last item of the list) and click β€˜Add page’ at the bottom right.

β†’ Name the Page

Give the page a title that reflects its content.

By default, pages are set to β€˜Live,’ but you can change this to β€˜Draft’ if you're working on the page while it’s in use.

β†’ Upload Video

Click β€˜Choose Video’ to upload your video file. Recommended formats include .AVI, .MOV, or .MP4. For optimal performance, ensure the file is under 90MB to reduce loading time.

β†’ Add Subtitle (Optional)

If needed, add a subtitle (.VTT) file for accessibility.

Note: VTT Creator Tool can help create subtitle files.

β†’ Select or Upload Thumbnail

Choose a preview image by pausing the video and taking snapshots, or upload a custom thumbnail by toggling β€˜Upload thumbnail’ and selecting an image.

β†’ Add Info Button Details (Optional)

Use the β€˜Info Button’ section to add supplementary information about the video’s content for users.

β†’ Configure Page Options

In the β€˜Page Options’ section, enable β€˜Auto play’ if you want the video to start as soon as the page loads.
