Context

When onboarding new hires, it can be challenging to deliver relevant content tailored to their specific roles, locations, or profiles. Sending everyone the same content can lead to confusion and overwhelm, as not all information applies to every user.

Contextual Content allows you to show new hires only the content that is relevant to them. By using tags specific to countries, offices, or job profiles, you can create a customised onboarding experience without needing to create separate courses for each group.

Tag Accessibility:

  • If two tags share the same color, only one is needed to access the chapter.

  • If tags are of different colours, both tags must be present for access.

What you can learn on this page:

Steps to create the Contextual Tags

Before you can add tags to your stories and chapters you will have to create the tags on course level. You will have to create the tags in a course in order to add them to stories and chapters.

β†’ Go to Tags page

Click on 'Courses' in the menu on the left side of the screen.

Click on the menu icon in the top right corner of the desired course.
Click on 'Tags' to access the tag management page.

β†’ Create New Tags

Click on 'Edit tags.'
Type the name of the tag in the text field, then click the '+' button to add it to your collection.
Note: Confirm that your tag appears in the 'Manage Tags' field. You can delete a tag by clicking the 'x' button.

β†’ Edit Default Tags

By default, the tags are categorised as 'Country tags', 'Office tags', and 'Role tags'. You can edit these by clicking on the name and typing your preferred name.

Adding tags to your stories

There are two ways to add Contextual Tags to a Story:

  • By creating a new story

  • By adding it to an existing story

β†’ By creating a new story

Navigate to Your Course
Open the course that contains the desired stories and click on 'Editor.'

Add Story with Contextual Tags
Click the '+' button next to 'Contextual.'

Create Your Story
Type the name of your story and upload an image. If necessary, set a date for when the story will be available.

Assign Tags

Add the appropriate tags to the story by clicking 'Add' under 'Country tags', for example. Select the tag you want to add and click 'Save.'

This story is now only visible to users that are have the Country tag 'Italy' in their profile.

β†’ By adding it to an existing story

Open Story Settings

Click on the menu icon in the top right corner of the desired story, then click on 'Settings'.

Add Contextual Tag

Scroll to Contextual Content Tags
Locate the section for contextual content tags in your story settings.

Select Your Tag
Choose the tag you want to add from the available options.
Click on the 'Add' button to include the selected tag.

Save Changes
Click the '+' icon to confirm your selection and then press 'Save.'

Confirmation
You will see a pop-up message confirming that the tag has been successfully updated.

Adding tags to your chapters

πŸ“Œ Note: Ensure that the chapter's tags do not conflict with those assigned to its story. For example, if a story is tagged solely with 'Germany', all chapters under that story should also be tagged with 'Germany' and not 'Netherlands'.

β†’ Access Chapter Settings

Click on the gear icon in the top left corner of the desired chapter and select Settings.

β†’ Create Contextual Tags

This page allows you to create contextual tags, which are categorized as Country tags, Office tags, and Role tags by default. You can rename these tags according to your preferences by clicking on the tag name and entering the new name.

β†’ Edit Tags

Click on 'Edit Tags' to begin creating new tags or modifying existing ones.

β†’ Add Your Desired Tag

Select the tag you wish to add and click 'Save' to apply your changes.

Filter Content (the "tag filter")

The Content Filter allows you to view the course from the perspective of users with specific tags. This helps you identify which stories are accessible and which are not.

β†’ Viewing All Stories

When no tag is selected, all stories will be displayed.

β†’ Selecting a Specific Tag

When you select a tag (e.g., 'Italy'), only stories associated with that tag will be visible. For example, if the 'Italy' tag is selected, the story "Welcome to Amsterdam" will not be visible, as it is tagged differently ('Netherlands').
