Overview

Adding video content can significantly enhance the learning experience. However, uploading video files directly can be challenging due to large file sizes, which may impact upload times and take up substantial storage.

Embedding YouTube videos using an embed link allows you to display high-quality content directly on your page without downloading files. Embeds are fast and keep the content centralised, providing a seamless viewing experience and saving you storage space.

Steps to embed a YouTube video

β†’ Obtain the Embed Code

Go to the YouTube video you wish to embed and click 'Share'.

Select 'Embed' from the sharing options.

Click 'Copy' to save the embed code to your clipboard.

Tip: Uncheck the option to show related videos to avoid suggestions after the video ends.

Add the Embed to your page

β†’ Add a new page and select Embed page

Go to Courses > Editor > Story > Chapter > Page.

Select the chapter in the menu on the left, and 'add page'.

Choose 'Embed' in the menu on the left and click on the button that says 'Add page' in the bottom right corner.

β†’ Choose a title

Give your new Embed Page a name.

Tip: Appical has a guide on choosing a good title or name fo your page: Giving your page a name.

β†’ Text field

Write a brief explanation in the text field below the title, informing users about the content embedded on the page. This is helpful in case they can not access or see the embedded page.

β†’ Paste embed code

Copy the embed code from the source you are embedding (e.g., YouTube, Google Maps, or any other interactive content provider). Then, paste the code into the text field labeled 'Paste your code here'.

β†’ Info Button text

The Info Button allows you to provide additional context or explanations. When a user clicks on the Info Button, they will see the text you have written in the 'Info Button' text field. Use this space to offer more details or clarifications about the embedded content or the topic being discussed.

β†’ Display it in its full size

At Page Options, you are able to configure answer settings and advanced settings. If you click on select the checkbox at β€˜Show full-size widget’ the embedded content will be displayed in its full size.
